An inn gently welcomed by unadorned greenery
A peaceful stay surrounded by seasonal plants

Wayado 520 Rokushō (known as Rokushō) opened on June 6, 2025, as an exclusive private accommodation for one group at a time, created through the renovation of a traditional Japanese house. Rokushō refers to the beautiful bluish patina that forms on copper over time through natural aging. Located along the approach to Unchō-an, a sub-temple of Engaku-ji—one of the Five Great Zen Temples of Kamakura—the building was once the home of a copper craftsman during the Showa era, when the area was lively with shops and residences of those involved with temples and shrines. For this reason, the rain gutters were made of copper, and the patina they have acquired over the years—tinged with rokushō—remains one of the building’s quiet highlights.
After serving as a restaurant, the building has now been carefully restored as a Japanese inn and a dedicated kitchen. The seasonal plants that welcome guests reflect a subtle continuity: vegetation from different eras, alongside newly planted greenery, now rooted together in the same soil as the garden of the inn. Inside, the old house features a simple tatami-floored room and a dining area with a compact kitchen. By opening the shoji screens and spending time relaxing on the engawa veranda, guests are invited to enjoy moments of peaceful calmness.
